An Outsiders View

I don't quite feel I should have the privilege of contributing to this blog.
I'm just the little sister of the Truman's friend. I think I've only officially met Wes once.

Even though I didn’t personally know Wes, I have been privileged to hear over the past many years of the kind of person he is through my older sisters. I remember hearing the experience re-told of Wes and Lori's engagement. I was at BYU when Wes first found out he had cancer. Since neither of my older sisters were still in Provo, I felt the type of concern for the Trumans that one would have for a family member or close friend. I read their blog posts often over the years and have been affected by their great strength , love for each other and the gospel.

I have read over the past many days story after story from his life. As I read these memories and pondered his great influence I couldn’t help but ask the Lord why such a great example and amazing man was allowed to leave this earth at such a young age. I can only imagine how his influence for good would continue to guide and build up lives all over the world. My testimony and optimism doesn’t let me dwell on that thought for long. I know that even this last week, as memories and thoughts have poured into this blog, Wes has influenced more people for good in his short life than possibly any of us will the rest of our lives. I know that as his example is remembered throughout our lives, it will help each one of us to be better people and in turn continue to influence others for good.

I also have to say a word about what I have witnessed in Wes and Lori’s marriage. As one who studied relationships in my major I am quite fascinated by the marriage relationship. I am constantly reading about, studying and looking for great examples of a good marriage. As I have witnessed Wes and Lori’s interactions and experiences together, I can’t think of a more selfless couple and greater example of what a celestial marriage should be like. I will forever continue to refer to and reflect on their example of a great marriage.

How glorious it is to know that Wes Truman's children have a father who has given them a lifetime of good examples to refer to and an unwavering testimony for them to follow. What a great legacy to be a part of.
